Cuvée (or Cuvee on some English language labels) is a French term used on wine labels to denote wine of a specific blend or batch. The word originates from the French word cuve meaning "vat". A cuvée wine may be numbered, indicating that the winemaker assigned a unique number to that blend. The word cuvée may also be used in terms such as "vin de cuvée", "cuvée speciale", or "tête de cuvée" to indicate a first-press wine or a wine that the winemaker believes to be among their finest.

Riserva wine is a term given to a specific wine to imply that is of a higher quality than usual. Traditionally winemakers would "reserve" some of their best wine rather than sell it immediately, coining the term.

Sometimes, reserve wine originates from the best vineyards, or the best barrels, making it more special. Additionally, riserva wines might be made in a style suited to longer aging periods. However, the mere presence of the term "riserva" on a wine label may be nothing but a marketing strategy.

In Italy, the terms of riserva, are controlled by law, at least ensuring that reserve wines get some additional aging.

Partly because of the often flimsy meaning of "reserve," many wineries produce named cuvées instead. Typically these are genuine reserve wines

Indicazione Geografica Tipica ( IGT )is the second of four classifications of wine recognized by the government of Italy. Created to recognize the unusually high quality of the class of wines known as Super Tuscans, IGT wines are labeled with the locality of their creation, but do not meet the requirements of the theoretically higher DOC or DOCG designations, which are generally intended to protect traditional wine formulations such as Chianti or Barolo. In wine terms, it is considered the rough Italian equivalent of the French vin de pays designation.
